Aha...we finally made it to enjoy this popular Crazy Fried Rice in Menteng which I mentioned earlier on my previous post. This time I was smarter by departing earlier from home lol. We arrived before the break-fasting time and no traffic!! Wonderful Sunday evening.
Indonesia style food truck
You must be wondering why is it called Crazy Fried Rice? and what's so crazy about it? We call it nasi goreng gila in my language (gila = crazy; nasi goreng = fried rice). I actually not really sure why is it called that way. My guess is maybe because of the pretty large portion with various toppings. The chef dump everything into the fried rice, such as eggs, shredded chicken pieces, Bakso (Indonesian style meat ball), beef sausages and cabbages. You can request for non spicy, medium spicy or very spicy fried rice. This fried rice is usually can be found on Indonesian style food truck which is usually on the street side. We call it Pedagang Kaki lima or PKL. The direct translation is five feet vendor, because the the truck has 2 wheels, with one stand to support the truck when it's parked and two feet of the seller, so they are five in total.
Chef in action
This particular Crazy Fried Rice that I had yesterday was sold at Situ Lembang Park, Menteng, Central Jakarta. A nice park for an evening walk and picnic.
Here is the video of the park and the cooking process of Crazy Fried Rice toppings. You can choose toppings on plain white rice or fried rice.
It looks appetizing, doesn't it?
I really recommend you guys who live outside Jakarta or Indonesia to try this when you visit Jakarta.
